The dishes at this Italian restaurant are as beautiful as they are delicious

Sapori means flavors in Italian, but at Cafe Sapori, the plates offer not only the excitement of wonderful tastes, but a feast for the eyes as well. The displays are more than attractive; they’re absolutely enticing.

The colors are as bright as the food, with herbs and vegetables making statements that give dishes distinction. Asparagus stands upright and salutes a filet mignon special ($32.95). Parsley, like artfully scattered confetti, covers the rim of a plate holding veal boscaiola ($24.95). A tall sprig of rosemary is the centerpiece for rack of lamb ($33.95), usually served several times a week. A medley of green and red catches the eye as the middle element of chicken rollatini ($22.95).

The Gladstone cafe opened two months ago in the building that previously housed Sublime. The location once was the home of Rudolfo’s, which made a big splash in the 1990s. Sapori has wrought some changes in its venue, most notably an attractively redone deck, a nice option in fine weather because Lackawanna Avenue is a quiet little side street in the borough of Peapack and Gladstone.

The restaurant is owned by Mani Mavraj and her husband, Matt Gashi. She is the sister of Benny Mavraj, owner of Cafe Azzuro a few blocks away on the other side of town, in Peapack. Mani Mavraj emphasizes she is not in competition with Azzurro and her brother.
